Salary
Members of the European Parliament receive a gross monthly salary of €10,377.43 (as at 1 January 2024). After deduction of EU taxes, €8,088.03 remains, which is taxed in Germany.
Carola pays a 15 per cent mandate holder levy to the Left Party. She donates a further 20 per cent to social movements: 10 per cent to the Bewegungsstiftung and 10 per cent to Global Green Grants.
Daily Allowance
MEPs can claim a daily allowance on the days they work within the European Parliament in Brussels or Strasbourg. This daily allowance is intended to cover the cost of meals and accommodation for the day. The lump sum per day is 350 euros gross.
General Expenditure Allowance
Our team receives €4,950 per month from Parliament to cover office costs. For example, we use this to pay the rent for offices in Germany, any office equipment (chairs, printer paper, software, notebooks, etc.) and the
organisation of events. Every three months, we publish an overview of what we have spent the money on. When Carola’s mandate ends, we will return any unused money to Parliament.
