Our team manifesto
Our work focuses on climate, environmental and social justice. We aim to support and strengthen grassroots communities and civil society movements fighting for climate, environmental and social justice and against capitalism, in Europe and the Global South. We are part of this movement and our team consists of several members of different climate, environmental, social justice, indigenous, anti-colonial and anti-capitalist movements.
We give voice to the movement and its demands in the European Parliament. We are accountable to the movement, while recognising our relations to party politics. But we do not place trust in the European Union institutions, including the European Parliament, to solve nor in any way adequately address the urgent climate and biodiversity crises, systemic inequalities and colonial injustices. This is because the European Union was founded, shaped and developed to serve the interests of capital. It is because neoliberalism is embedded in the Treaties of the European Union, and because the European Union and its institutions are a central part of the continuum of European colonialism. Instead, we see electoral and parliamentary politics primarily as a platform to organise collective action and disrupt mainstream politics.
The Global South has contributed the least to the climate and biodiversity crises yet it is the most affected by them. The EU’s climate and environmental policies are exacerbating, rather than solving, the crises and continue to reproduce the same colonial inequalities that have caused the crisis. There will be no true transition anywhere without a just transition everywhere. Therefore, our work has a special focus on the struggles of the Global South. We will be supported by a Council of wise leaders and political and spiritual representatives from the communities and social movements of the Global South. They have committed to stand with us, providing direction and guidance that will ensure the coherence and integrity of our work.
We are a diverse team and we draw strength from this diversity. We operate in a brave space, committed to learning and growing – individually and together – and taking collective action. We strive to create and maintain an inclusive and supportive work environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to participate in meaningful ways.
