Salary

Members of the European Parliament receive a gross monthly salary of €10,377.43 (as at 1 January 2024). After deducting EU taxes, €8,088.03 remains, which will be taxed in Germany.

Carola pays another 15 per cent of the €10,377.43 to the Left Party. She donates a further 20 per cent to social movements: 10 per cent to the Bewegungsstiftung and 10 per cent to Global Green Grants.

Daily Allowance

MEPs can claim a daily allowance on the days they spend at one of the European Parliament’s places of work (Brussels or Strasbourg). This daily allowance is intended to cover the cost of meals, accommodation and incidental expenses for the day. In order to receive the daily allowance, MEPs must register on an attendance list. The flat-rate amount per day is currently 350 euros gross, which is also paid into Carola’s private account.

General Expense Allowance

Our office receives €4,950 per month for the purpose of covering costs such as the rent for offices in Germany, any office equipment from chairs to printing paper to notebooks as well as organising events and representation. We will publish a breakdown of the expenditure in this budget every 3 months.

At the end of the mandate we will return any unused money to the parliament.
